Default Disabling chimes

Jeep Wrangler JK - 2007 onwards
Disabling seat belt chime.

Here are the steps to deactivate the chime.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, and buckle the driver or front passenger seat belt.

2. Turn the ignition key to the ACCESSORY/RUN position (engine does not need to be running), and wait for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.

3. Within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle, unbuckle and then re-buckle the driver or front passenger seat belt at least three times within 10 seconds, ending with the seat belt buckled.

4. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.

That's the one I did not really need, looking for the key in the ignition, door open, car not started, foot on the floor, lights are on, lights are off, start, stop etc, ie all the other chimes!
Please post if you have the details. (For all the Jeep models)
Thread sticky.

Just remember that the buckle status determines the airbag deployment functionality as well.

A friend tried it on her 2007 Cherokee and it also worked.

Disclaimer: Who's responsable, you did it

First remove covers around steering wheel. Note that the upper 2 screws need a T25 torque key.
This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 750x600 and weights 72KB.

Next on the left hand side you will see the actual switch that drives the ignition.
This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 750x600 and weights 73KB.

Here is the mechanical part. See the buzzer is hard wired to the ignition via a pressure switch. (just as I thought, Benhur right on the money ) Shaft pushes out when key is insetted. EDIT: Switch also wires to the computer
This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 750x600 and weights 63KB.

Next pic the actual switch notice 2 plugs. Small one for the buzzer, big one for the ignition wires. Rond bit the actual pressure switch.
This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 750x600 and weights 58KB.

Here is the plug for the buzzer halfway removed it has a blue and black wire.
This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 750x600 and weights 83KB.

Now with that done I think that the hachets, nail files and angle grinders can leave the buzzer alone.

EDIT: NOTICE when removing the plug, two functions are lost in the overhead display (Remote linked to seats and easy exit seats) Only realised this when I had to set it for my mother (yes she also drives the Jeep). I don't use the functions. I'm 6'1" mom is 5' somewhere short

Easy exit seat is totally lost as it cannot read when the key is removed. The memory linked to remote still functions, but it has to be set before the plug is removed.

No codes show up when the plug is removed, strangely

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Hope this helps for other people that want to rip open the dash and smash the buzzer to smithereens.

Same procedure to enable it again. To the best of my knowledge it should not affect the airbag as it does not disable the seatbelt not buckled warning only the chime isnoff. My warning light stays on until I buckle it. Very happy now as I spend air of time in the car in our neighbourhood and often get out so it was becoming a pain.

Dirk,

I got this from a guy in the States, haven't had the opportunity to try it out though:

"wired a nintendo controller into the obdII port, up up down down left right left right start, no door chime."

The obvious way to stop the chime is to disconnect or remove your doors , problem with the disconnect is that it also disconnects your remote central locking.

Good luck finding a Nintendo controller.

Following a thread over on the JK-Forum, the chaps there identified that the switch the sounds the chime for door open key in ignition is in the latch itself, now which owner is going to open their door and get to the latch to figure out how to sort this out for once and for all?

Dirk, If I want mine off - which is only if I want to leave the radio on with the key in and the doors open - not often - I just unplug the door!!

Problem is that switch controls the interior light, radio off and a few other bits and pieces that all become disabled when it doesn't work. the computer desperatley needs to know if a door is open!!!!

of course - if you unplug the door, central locking and windows don't work...

It's a pain, but I've learnt to live with it I think... mostly...

I think you can also reprogram the radio to only go on or off manually - which means you never need to leave the key in... but then you might leave the radio on.. pain!!!

now mine is back - I'll have to check the manual for that!!!

My Fortuner did not have a seat belt chime, but it had a little red flashing light that annoyed me in the bush when I really did not want the seat belt on. (On a public road it doesn't bother me, I always have the belt on anyway).

Here is how I solved it:

At the Dakkies in Zambesi they sell a little clip for the ladies' bags that will click into the seat belt slot, to prevent smash and grab losses. I just clipped it in and VOILA the light was dead. Alternatively go to a scrapyard and buy a seat belt clip.

I am not sure if it will work for all cars, but maybe it does.

Default WJ GC seatbelt chime disable

Do the following to disable the seatbelt chime on the WJ Grand Cherokee (from the 2004 Owners Manual):

NOTE:
The following steps must occur within the first 60 seconds of the ignition switch being turned to the ON or START position. The manufacturer does not recommend deactivating the Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert).

1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, and
fasten the driverís seat belt.

2. Start the engine, and wait for the Seat Belt Warning
Light to turn off.

3. Within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle, unbuckle
and then re-buckle the driverís seat belt at least three
times, ending with the seat belt buckled.

4. Turn off the engine. A single chime will sound to
signify that you have successfully completed the programming.

The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be reactivated
by repeating this procedure.

I noticed a few weeks ago that the volume of all the chimes on my JK was down to the extent that you really have to switch the radio off and put your ear close to the dash in order to hear it. Don't know how it happened....might be a loose connector or the buzzer is starting to pack up.
I miss that those sounds

If you take out the chime and measure the resistance with a multimeter and replace it with a resistor of the same value it should also work, (Keeping the normal indicator functionality on the dash display)

I only have my TJ since last Thursday , and the buzzer anoye's the life out of me.
It litraly beeps on every action, putting it in park ,activating handbreak, doors ect ect
If i get a chnce this weekend im taking it out, will let you know how it went.

The tj chime is far simpler to the jk, the jk is quite complex. The problem is more apparent on Right Hand Drive models however. We have sold minimal chimebusters to Left Hand Drive Markets.

I found a post on the LCCSA that disables the chime that will work on all vehicles.

Stuff the buzzer/bleeper full of silicone.

Just locate the correct wire for the door open switch and fit a micro switch on it. Then just flip the switch when the door is open for washing or radio playing with door open and switch it back on when finished. The wire colour can be found on the wiring diagram for the JK.

There's a simple fix for the seat belt buzzer that works on any car. Go to a scrapyard (or dealership if you have too much money), buy a spare seat belt buckle, and plug that in when you're in the bush.

Just tried it on my 2005 KJ and it worked, now when I'm in the bush I don't have to strap the seatbelt around the back of my chair to stop the beep.

Thanks

just tried it on my 2012 Rubicon, it worked like a charm. went to the dealer for some other stuff, had them login the system to activate door locking. and the system showed that the seatbelt chime was off.
I then confirmed that it has no effect on the airbags.

for the door chime, they cannot deactivate it, but the advice was use a pen. as the switch is in the door lock, just push the latch to close with a pen and no more chime. remember to open latch before closing door..

I think it's all programmable. At my last service I asked for the seatbelt warning to be disabled and presto..... I mean so I can drive off-road with setbelts off. It just chimes when you start the engine. However, I would think that all these features can be turned on or off, provided the dealer knows his stuff.
